DETROIT WHEELS

There was always something special 'bout a set of Detroit Wheels
They can always bring back memories the way they make me feel
With the top rolled down the music loud and a girl to hold on tight
In a set of Detroit wheels, on a 60's summer night.

Ah you were killing me with kindness there was something in the air
Hot summer nights were timeless, like the perfume on your hair
All that drive in movie romance on those hot nights made for sin
From dusk till dawn all night long throwing caution to the wind.

In my Detroit wheels, driving fast
Screaming tires, the smell of gas
Detroit wheels, still alive in me
In my set of Detroit wheels young and free
Detroit wheels, long and new
Shinny chrome and comfort too
Detroit wheels, still in my heart
There's been a love of Detroit wheels right from the start.

Tell me that I'm crazy, tell me it's not true
Try and tell me they don't have the same effect on you

Detroit wheels still in my heart
It's been a love affair with Detroit wheels right from the start
Detroit wheels, Detroit wheels
Detroit wheels still alive in me
In my set of Detroit wheels young and free
Detroit wheels still in my heart
It's been a love affair with Detroit wheels right from the start
Detroit wheels see them comin', Detroit wheels they're a hummin'
Detroit wheels they're a runnin', Detroit wheels.

WHEN THE RIGHT HORSE COMES ALONG

She was standing in the shadows at a late night country bar
Hiding from the bright lights where the pretty people are
She was all tricked out in leather, her lips were fire red
Green eyes and hair as black as coal, her hips could raise the dead

There was something special 'bout her, she looked so out of place
She caught me staring at her, a smile came to her face
We spent the whole night talking time went by so fast
How could I know she had a plan, to make the morning last

As the light of dawn came calling, a chill was in the air
But when passion's burning white hot then sparks begin to flare
Yes my heart was in her pocket but her tattoo changed my song
Two tiny spurs above the words, when the right horse comes along

She whispered I don't wear hats and I never wear boots
Never owned chaps never learned how to shoot
I'll never two step to those sad country songs
But I always keep my spurs on 'cause you never know
When the right horse comes along

Just like the spider and the fly I was drawn into her web
Was I just another victim, keeps running through my head

Some night out in the country when the moon is riding high
You too might meet a stranger dark haired with emerald eyes
If your pulse begins to quicken you believe your dream's come true
My advice keep one eye open and check for that tattoo

If she says I don't wear hats and I never wear boots
Never owned chaps never learned how to shoot
I'll never two step to those sad country songs
But I always keep my spurs on 'cause you never know
When the right horse comes along
But I always keep my spurs on 'cause you never know
When the right horse, comes along

    AN OLD COWBOY

He's long and lean like an old string bean his face is hard and lined
Behind a mustached lip he's got a barbed wire wit he'll use from time to time
Never press him don't second guess him there's more there than you'd think
He's got a quick right hand and he always stands at the bar when he takes his drink

He can stretch the truth if his lips get loose his stories go back years
His legs were bowed by those bulls he's road running cows and roping steers
He walks real stiff got that broken hip breaking colts last fall
He's been feeling down since he's moved to town was it worth it after all

An old cowboy whose working days are done
Always half broke with no place left to run
An old cowboy with nothing left to prove
An old cowboy whose cowboy days are through

He drives a broke down Ford with a kicked in door still pulls a one horse van through town
It was just last year I seen him shed a tear when he put that old horse down
Before he's called to board asked by the Lord to take that final ride
I hope he'll understand how I've loved that man and his damned old cowboy pride

He can't chew beef too many missing teeth got a hide as coarse as sand

An old cowboy whose working days are done
Always half broke with no place left to run
An old cowboy with nothing left to prove
An old cowboy like a pair of worn out boots
An old cowboy whose cowboy days are through

    WE'RE FINALLY THROUGH

I don't fall easy God knows it's true
When I think of the years I've spent with you
It makes it so hard to swallow so hard to breath
As I'm standing hear watching you leave

I've got my pride sometimes it's not enough
I need to know you loved me was I asking too much
Was there ever commitment do you admit that it's true
You needed me just like I needed you

We're walking away saying goodbye
We've made up our minds not a tear left to cry
You know what you want you know what to do
Can we say we're finally through

Still waters run deep though it don't always show
There's a place in my heart I just can't let go
Though the words don't come easy it don't mean I don't care
You must know you will always be there

We're walking away saying goodbye
We've made up our minds not a tear left to cry
You know what you want you know what to do
Can we say we're finally through
Is this what we want do we know what to do
Can we say we're finally through

    STORMY WEATHER

I can't take these long cold winters snow it brings me down
It's hard to keep my spirits up now the sun won't come around
Day after day the color grey and nights can last forever
Then one more dawn how time drags on I hate this stormy weather

Can't find a reason make no sense for all of my despair
There was a time soft on my mind when joy did fill the air
But I was so much younger then no grey upon my chin
I never knew the depth of blue or felt the icy wind

Take away this stormy weather
Just three days of sun together
I can't stay this cold forever
I can't take this stormy weather

Too much time it bends the mind these idle hands grow weak
As pale and ghostly images trudge slowly through the streets
So burdened by their aching bones and chilled right to the marrow
Bent small they cringe whipped by the wind just like the tiny sparrow

Take away this stormy weather
Just three days of sun together
I can't stay this cold forever
I can't take this stormy weather

Last night I dreamed I sailed upon an endless emerald sea
A breeze blew fresh upon my face white light washed over me
On and on into the sun on sails that billowed white
They carried me safe warm and free far from these stormy nights

Take away this stormy weather
Just three days of sun together
I can't stay this cold forever
I can't take this stormy weather
I can't take, this stormy weather

    LATE NIGHT CALLS

Staggered home late last night harvest moon was shining bright
Ain't a light on at my home or across the nation
I unlocked the door and I stumbled in
Threw my boots in the corner and keys in the bin
Sittin' all alone it's then I get to thinking
What about those people that I never see
Wondering if they're wondering what's become of me
It's then my hand starts searching fumbling in the dark
I grab the receiver then I start to talk

I make those late night calls when I've been drinking
I talk the whole night long without blinking
Thank God I'm calling when it's cheaper at night
And sometimes when I wake 'em they get real uptight
These late night calls after three are killing me

Phone company wants to know have you paid us yet
Well I don't take kindly to idle threats
Hell, I gotta be the best customer they ever had
I'll pay my bill never start again then I start drinkin' I'm alone and then
Must be someone I ain't talked to in years
Then my hand starts searchin' fumbling in the dark
I grab the receiver then I start to talk

I make those late night calls when I've been drinking
I talk the whole night long without blinking
Thank God I'm calling when it's cheaper at night
And sometimes when I wake 'em they get real uptight
These late night calls after three are killing me
These late night calls on alcohol ain't free
Say pass me a little of that mix, I still got a little Johnny Walker left

I WILL LOVE YOU

Well here we are it's coming on September
And one more year has slowly come and gone
I've never said the words I know you've longed for
So please listen as I sing them in this song

I will love you as the snow melts in the mountains
I will love you as the frozen rivers run
As the sweet grass grows tall across the valley
You're my true love, you are the one

I know lately we don't spend much time together
We don't seem to need each other like before
But my love for you is more than time can measure
You must believe I could not love you more

Promise me we'll always be together
No matter how the seasons change

For I will love you as the snow melts in the mountains
I will live you as the frozen rivers run
As the sweet grass grows tall across the valley
You're my true love, the only one

I will love you as the moon shines on the waters
I will love you until my life is done
You are the star that burns bright in the heavens
You're my true love, the only one
You are my love, you are the one.

MY LUCK IS GONNA CHANGE

The repo man just drove off in my truck
Lately I ain't havin' any luck
The instant teller won't hand back my card
And my neighbor's pit bull's diggin' up my yard

Lately I've been feeling kinda strange
It's not something easy to explain
I'm not one you'll ever hear complain
But I'm hoping that my luck is gonna change

My Doctor says to cut out food that's fried
Last night my kid's canary up and died
The taxman's run an audit on my books
And my age is really changing how I look

Lately I've been feeling kinda strange
It's not something easy to explain
I'm not one you'll ever hear complain
But I'm hoping that my luck is gonna change

Last night I locked my keys up in my car
Then I read an arsonist burned down my favorite bar

Oh lately I've been feeling kinda strained
These crazy thoughts keep rolling round my brain
Now I'm not one you'll ever hear complain
Bit I'm hoping that my luck is gonna change
Last night I locked myself out in the rain
But I'm hoping that my luck, we're betting that his luck
I'm praying that my luck is gonna change.

NO WAY

I don't want to talk to you I don't want to touch you because
If I start to touch you then I will want to comfort you
If I start to comfort you I will want to stroke your skin
If I start to stroke your skin I will know how soft it is

No way not ever, no way no never
No way is better, no way

If I could only let you know I can't let my feelings show
I don't want to touch because if I start to touch you then I will want to comfort you
If I start to comfort you I will want to stroke your hair
If I start to stroke your hair I will know how fine it is

No way not ever, no way no never
No way is better, no way

At times my heart is breaking my body starts to shaking
But you will never see me act this way

I don't want to talk to you cause if I start to talk to you
I will want to kiss your mouth if I start to kiss your mouth
I won't want to stop

No way no never, no way not ever
No way is better, no way
No way not ever, no way no never
This way is better, no way.

BREAKFAST IN BED

Each Sunday morning I get breakfast in bed
She props up my pillow behind my sleepy head
Then a hug and a kiss her soft lips on mine
As our bodies slowly entwine

Now you can have poached coddled scrambled or fried
Back bacon sausage or hash on the side
But her special recipe ain't in no books
She's a definite gourmet when she starts to cook

She serves me breakfast in bed with her gentle touch
It's like a seven course meal I've never had it so rough
So warm and so tender like being spoon fed
When she serves me breakfast in bed

No need for toast orange juice jellies or jams
I've got a feast and it's right hear in my hands

On Mondays and Tuesdays and through the rest of the week
Same old working man blues I get run off my feet
But come Sunday it's my time to lay back play dead
That's when she serves me breakfast in bed

She serves me breakfast in bed with her gentle touch
It's like a seven course meal I've never had it so rough
So warm and so tender like being spoon fed
When she serves me breakfast in bed
She serves me breakfast in bed
She serves me breakfast in bed
Say what are the chances of seconds

A FATHER'S LOVE

I know you sometimes get down hearted it's easy to feel blue
I remember many times I've felt that way too
There'll be times you'll get knocked about you'll bounce back again
You'll stand tall above them all triumph in the end

Through the years you'll see your share of sacrifice and pain
There's no life without it without it there's no gain
It's a lifetime bent on trying to make your dreams come true
If I were a betting man I'd surely bet on you

So take your place know who you are
Learn the rules run the race you'll go far
Don't stand on pride that's what they say
There may be times you'll find it wise to walk away
A father's love hard to express
Locked in the memory of a child beneath the breast
Unto your heart always be true
It's there you'll find that peace of mind will follow you

So take your place know who you are
Learn the rules run the race you'll go far
Don't stand on pride that's what they say
There may be times you'll find it wise to walk away
A father's love hard to express
Locked in the memory of a child beneath the breast
Unto your heart always be true
It's there you'll find that peace of mind will follow you.
